In an interesting coincidence, I read the Heiner and Trabulsy article Coping With the Death of a Patient in the Emergency Department the day after I finished the new book titled What It Is Like to Go to War, by Karl Marlantes. The parallels were striking. Marlantes, a platoon leader in Vietnam, describes from personal experience the strong emotions experienced by soldiers in combat who kill the enemy and witness the death of their friends.
