Commentary on “Nationwide Trends in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair and Use of Endovascular Repair in the Emergency Setting”

The ambitious article by Mohan et al () purports to examine trends and issues related to elective and emergency endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for unruptured and ruptured infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) by examining the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database from 2001 through 2009. The authors show that the proportion of patients with ruptured and unruptured AAAs treated by EVAR rather than open aneurysm repair (OAR) is increasing, as is well known.
